Nomadic Libraries

I usually end up dumping a few boxes of old books at the Goodwill every year, just to make room for all the CRAP we somehow keep collecting. However, I think I’m going to start ‘abandoning’ them around the city. It will be way more fun.

Check out BookCrossing, an interesting site where you sign up for a unique ID, label your books, release them into the urban jungle, and post where they’re at. Amazing. I’ve already signed up and am scouring my bookshelves for some literary litter.

Our members love books enough to let them go—into the wild—to be found by others. Book sharing has never been more exciting, more serendipitous, than with BookCrossing. Our goal, simply, is to make the whole world a library. BookCrossing is a book exchange of infinite proportion, the first and only of its kind.

They even have their own definition in the online Oxford English Dictionary (3 below blogosphere).

Currently, in downtown Toronto, there are 16 books up for grabs! Go check them out before I do!
